White Lotus season 3 ad partners turn commercials into content
Warner Bros Discovery's TV show "The White Lotus" has taken another step towards fully blurring the lines between advertising and programming. Max subscribers will now be able to see snippets on the streaming platform featuring actors in character that focus on brands and products like American Express and Google Pixel. This differs from traditional product placement in that it is indistinguishable from normal consumer content, and marks a step forward for integrated advertising.
Paramount and Nielsen end dispute, agree to multiyear deal
Entertainment company Paramount and ratings and media data firm Nielsen have reached an agreement following an almost yearlong contract dispute. Effective immediately, Nielsen will be able to gather ratings and streaming data from all of Paramount's affiliated platforms and networks, including streaming services Paramount+ and Pluto TV, as well as all the firm's cable network channels. Nielsen is a leading provider of ratings and viewing data in the United States, and the dispute endangered the firm's ability to provide accurate, real-time metrics of Paramount customers' media consumption and preferences.
X adds Nestle, Lego, Shell, and Other Major Companies to advertising 'boycott' lawsuit
Elon Musk's X sis suing a number of large brands for 'illegally boycotting' the platform in order to force it to allow ads from new sources. Firms like the mega-company Unilever, oil company Shell International, beverage and food titan Nestlé, and Amazon-owned video game streaming platform Twitch are all named as defendants for the lawsuit. Musk's attorneys accused the brands in question of violating US antitrust regulations, and the suit's ongoing expenses forced the closure of the Global Alliance for Responsible Media, an organization owned by the World Federation of Advertisers (who is also named as a defendant in the case).
