Welcome to the Spring 2023 semester of AMA! We are thrilled to reunite our returning members and meet new members. This week's meeting includes an exciting presentation from our executive board, professional headshots, and snacks to welcome our members back. At AMA, we value educating our members about all of the opportunities coming up this semester and guiding them to make the most of their membership.
AMA members have the opportunity to be a part of a national organization with over 11,000 students and 370 chapters. At our UMD chapter, we help this amazing community be put on a smaller-scale. This semester has so many new opportunities and events for our members to attend that incorporate our three main pillars of educational, professional, and social experience.
There are so many great events lined up for this semester. From workshops with the VP of McCormick (2/28) to a community service event with the Mayor of College Park (4/19) there are so many AMA-zing opportunities this semester. We will be hosting our annual AMA Career fair on Tuesday 4/11, where companies will be looking specifically for Smith marketing students.
This semester, RedBlack consulting is back! This is a one of a kind experience that allows AMA members to immerse themselves into real marketing situations. Members will be placed on a team of 3-5 people to complete marketing projects for local businesses over a 6 week period. If you want to sharpen your marketing skills and work with a real company to help solve a marketing problem, be sure to apply on the general application!
Guess what? We are continuing our mentorship program! Being a mentor/mentee is a rewarding experience that allows you to connect 1-on-1 with another AMA member. Don’t forget to indicate your interest in the general AMA application!
If you are looking to expand your involvement and leadership with AMA even further, the executive board is opening up director positions. The following positions allow greater connections within our chapter, corporate partners, and can improve your chances for positions on our executive board in the future! Be sure to check them out in our general application:
Director of Marketing
Director of Corporate Outreach
Director of Logistics/PR
Director of Fundraising
Director of Corporate Sponsorships
For any Smith students interested in design and advertising, the Strategic Design Fellows program is the perfect opportunity to get hands-on experience in the field. The program runs in the fall semester of junior and senior year, with courses on Adobe Creative Suite, design principles and practices, and real life advertising applications. This is the perfect way to bulk up your portfolio, make connections within the industry, and gain invaluable experience with design. Be sure to submit your application by 2/20 and contact Professor Harms with any questions!
Don’t forget to pay you your national and local dues if you didn’t last semester (dues are good for two semesters). The AMA application form can be found here. It closes 2/12 at 11:59pm. By increasing your engagement with our chapter, you have the opportunity to earn bronze, silver, and gold membership. You can achieve these tiers by attending our weekly meetings, Undergraduate Marketing Conference, Career Fair and more. In our chapter, there are plenty of ways to be involved, develop relationships with fellow members, and grow your professional career!
We cannot wait to see you at our next meeting on February 21st from 7-8PM in VMH 1206 for Rebranding: Firsthand Lessons from a Shark Tank Entrepreneur!
- Megan Carey and Maeve Smarick
